Center Standards

Basic Participation Criteria (to be eligible to apply)

Program must have been in operation for at least 1 year (licensed for over 1 year).
Program must meet the ELC Child Safety Licensing Policy: May not have one (1) Class I licensing violation or more than three (3) Class II licensing violations of the same substandard in the past 12 months.
Program cannot have a probationary license.

Level 2Directors: Have 6 credits or 9.0 CEUs or a combination of the two in EC/CDDirectors: Have an active Level I Director Credential

Level 3Directors: Have 12 credits or 18.0 CEUs or a combination of the two in EC/CD or AA+/60 college credits toward a degree in a related field with 6 credits in EC/CDDirectors: Have an active Level II Director Credential
Lead Teachers: 100% have 9 credits or 13.5 CEUs or a combination of the two in EC/CDLead Teachers: 100% have active Staff Credential
Assistant Teachers: 50% have 6 credits or 9.0 CEUs or a combination of the two in EC/CD Assistant Teachers: 50% have (or currently enrolled in) active Staff Credential
ALL Teaching Staff: 100% of those employed for more than one year have at least 2.0 CEUs2 in EC/CD topic or equivalent credit hours per renewal3
Level 4Directors: Have 18 credits or 27.0 CEUs or a combination of the two in EC/CD or AA+/60 college credits toward a Degree in a related field with 15 credits in EC/CDDirectors: Have an active Advanced Director Credential
Lead Teachers: 100% have 15 credits or 22.5 CEUs or a combination of the two in EC/CD or AA+/60 college credits with 12 credits in EC/CDLead Teachers: 100% have active Staff Credential and of those 50% have active Staff Credential through formal education
Assistant Teachers: 50% have 9 credits or 13.5 CEUs or a combination of the two in EC/CD Assistant Teachers: 50% have active Staff Credential
ALL Teaching Staff: 100% of those employed for more than one year have 2.5 CEUs2 in EC/CD topic or equivalent credit hours per renewal3
Level 5Directors: Have BA/BS Degree with 18 credits in EC/CD Directors: Have an active Advanced Director Credential
Lead Teachers: 75% have AA/AS Degree with at least 18 credits in EC/CD Lead Teachers: 100% have active Staff Credential and of those, 50% have active Staff Credential through formal education
Assistant Teachers: 50% have 12 credits or 18.0 CEUs or a combination of the two in EC/CD or AA+/60 college credits with 6 credits in EC/CD Assistant Teachers: 100% have active Staff Credential
ALL Teaching Staff: 100% of those employed for more than one year have 3.0 CEUs2 in EC/CD topic or equivalent credit hours per renewal3

1 Licensing timeframe is one year from date of start within the field.
2 CEU = Continuing Education Units certified by a Regionally Accredited University/College or IACET (International Association Continuing Education and Training).
3 Trainings submitted at each renewal must be at least 0.4 CEUs each and cannot be a repeat of the same training taken the prior renewal period.
